The understated elegance of 1703 is displayed in the stylish dining room and artistically landscaped patio. Although local diners enjoy the chic decor, they return for the fine cuisine, extensive wine list and professional wait staff. Joe Curran, chef and owner, prepares lunch and dinner menus daily that reflect market availability and freshness of quality ingredients with many international influences. Our Southern Heritage lends itself to striving for perfection and but not making you feel stuffy or uneasy. Attire is generally casual, although some guests do like to dress up. That's what being a Southern restaurant is all about: Southern Taste ~ Southern Style. A sample of their dinner menu:

Milner’s

Stratford Road

Windows hung with long, single slabs of shutters and French doors and wicker tables with sand-colored armchairs inside conjure a beach-house feeling with Charleston appeal. Milner's emphasizes modern Southern food, with a strong influence of Charleston.

For the menu, that Lowcountry flavor includes a heavy dose of oysters, mahi-mahi, tuna, the requisite crab cakes and she-crab soup, shrimp, scallops and salmon. Other menu items include medallions of pork tenderloin encrusted with crushed Moravian spice cookies surrounded by pitch-perfect collards and a circle of sweet-potato bread pudding; crab-stuffed flounder in a pool of tomato-leek butter; spicy tomato Frogmore stew brimming over with mussels, shrimp, sausage, scallops and lobster. Milner's also has meal-size salads, greens topped with tuna, beef tenderloin or salmon.

Sweet Potatoes - A Restaurant

North Trade Street

Vivian Joiner and Stephanie Tyson, owners of Sweet Potatoes-A Restaurant, in the Arts District of Winston Salem, serve unique, southern inspired, uptown, down- home cooking. Their lunch menu consists of soups, salads and sandwiches like Mambo Chicken and V.V.'s Mamma's Meatloaf. On the dinner menu you will find such mouth watering entrees as Barbecued Duck and Roasted Quail. A full bar and extensive wine list rounds out any meal. And to top it all off, try one of Stephanie's home made desserts like Bourbon Pecan Pie or Sweet Potato Cheese Cake.

Old Salem Tavern

South Main Street

Originally operated by the Moravian Church, the Old Salem Tavern was a favorite of travelers along North Carolina's back country roads. The tavern is still a favorite of modern travelers and local residents alike, a tradition dating back almost 200 years. Built in 1816 as an annex to the original tavern next door, the building was restored in 1969 using detailed records from the early Moravians.Thomasville Fashion Week

Visitors to Old Salem are attracted by the tavern's historic charm; local diners know the exquisite food and warm, friendly atmosphere are perfect reasons to dine at the sign of the star.

The Old Salem Tavern features traditional Moravian favorites alongside contemporary fare under the direction of Chef John Deschler, who trained at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York.
